Guestbook for Wayne E. Kannel Showing 1 - 9 of 9 entries.

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Coach Kannel, and I would like to extend my sympathy to the entire family. The things I remember most about Coach Kannel besides the fact that he was an excellent history teacher and basketball coach, was that you were able to go talk to him whenever you had a problem. Even after graduating from high school, at times I would consult with him about some coaching situations in my life that needed attention. He was always able to give sound advice. Being fortunate to play three years of basketball under his direction will never be forgotten. The most memorable was his leadership of winning 28 games in a row with the team of 1947-48. His achievements in education and coaching led him to be included in Winona State's "Hall of Fame". Wayne Kannel was not only a hall of fame member in education and coaching, but also in friendship, leadership, and family throughout his whole life.

Hello and heartfelt condolences to the entire Kannel family on your loss. My memories of Mr. K. are when Jane and I would go to visit. I remember observing how Jane had the utmost respect for him and loved being in his company and I sure liked him, too. I just wish I could remember what nickname she called him?? Now he will be with his beloved Jane whom I miss so very much. The other stories from his past students tell exactly what kind of a man he was...his mark has been left in this world through his students, colleagues, friends and most of all his great family. I really wish I could be there to help celebrate his life and give hugs to all of you but unfortunately I am not able to. God Bless you all....

Mr Kannel was one of the easiest people to like that I ever met. His brand of humor made him a treat to be around and the respect he showed for others made it easy to respect him. The quality of man that he was is evidenced by the great kids he raised!!! What a wonderful family!!! May God comfort you all.

My sympathy to all of the family and friends of Mr. Wayne Kannel. (I never could manage calling him just "Wayne")
Mr. Kannels was my high school Civics, Biology and US History teacher and I had and have the utmost respect for him. While teaching for 40 years, I learned to appreciate his dedication to his students which was evident in the respect they showed him through the years. One of my favorite memories was when I was in biology class and he informed me that he knew I would be sad, but they weren't able to get the frogs so we wouldn't be able to dissect any. He knew how much I was looking forward to that!??
What a great legacy he has left for all of you!

Mr. Kannel, you were among my very favorite of teachers - it always amazed me the respect that you received from your students. You were the one teacher that never used a seating chart - we could sit next to our friends and no one ever took advantage.
I used to babysit your children and as you were leaving - you would say, "It wouldn't hurt you to open that History book and study" - believe me I did!!
You were an excellent teacher and instilled great qualities and goals for many of us.
You were an inspiration for me when I decided to become a teacher.
Hugs for your family as they deal with their loss - may they find peace in knowing that you touched many lives.

I was a teacher at Alma High School in 1960-62 and Mr. Kannel was my principal. I had the greatest respect for him. He and I moved to the Milwaukee area at the same time and we kept up with each other's lives over the years. My wife, Ginny, was a student at Alma H.S. during the time Wayne was a teacher. He left lasting impressions with her too. Alma reunions will not be the same without "Mr. Kannel" being there. So long Wayne, we'll miss you.

Mr. Kannel once told me I could do anything I wanted, he said my grades were not the best in high school but he knew I had the abiliy and would get me into any college I wanted to go to. He will never know how much those words meant to me and how much they helped my self-esteem. I went to college, got a teaching degree and have been teaching in GC for 46 years now. I will always remember him as my hero and how caring he could be. He was a great person, I only wish I could have told him this in person. He made a difference in my life. You have my sympathy and prayers. Love, Kay Dobberphul Logghe.

My sincere sympathy to all of you. It's always difficult to see our loved ones leave us but remember the happy times and find comfort in these memories.

Perhaps you may not know me, but I am a sister to Rita. I didn't know Wayne well but in the later years I did have contact with my Godfather Cappy and Evelyn. My Mom always thought so highly of your Dad as well as Jerry and Cappy

God Bless,
